I've been studying new kanji and have the settings such that it resets vocab mastery to 0 when a new kanji for that word is studied. The mastery is getting reset correctly. For instance I recently studied and all the words containing it have been reset:

In the past this reset would make the vocab be immediately available for review and I could 'study' the words again straight away while the new kanji was fresh in my mind.

However it's not doing that. Instead the schedules say they have no reviews available. I'm just wondering if I have changed a setting somewhere that's preventing me from studying the 'new' vectors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This should have been the behaviour all along. Mastery determines the next date something will come up for study only after you correctly answer a question about it. Until you answer another question for those vectors, the interval for the new mastery level won't take effect, because the next "to study" date was already set the last time you answered questions.

If words were immediately coming up for study before after learning new kanji, that's because you were enabling the kanji vector on those words for the first time. Renshuu doesn't quiz you on kanji you don't know, so if you don't know any of the kanji in a word, you won't get any kanji vector questions. The vector unlocks and is ready to study immediately once you learn at least one of the kanji in it, but for subsequent kanji in the same word you need to wait for the next question for the lowered level to take effect.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense for words I've already seen some Kanji in. Is there a way to change it? Because some of the words were at mastery 7/8 but have been reset to 0 so will it be a long time before I see them again or will they appear tomorrow? I was under the assumption that having the timing set to 0 days for mastery level 0 should make it appear straight away.

If you are using the "Japanese" study vectors, learning any one kanji in a word will disable the kana vectors and unlock the kanji vectors, which will become immediately available to study regardless of what the kana mastery was (since it's a different vector type). The only reason that wouldn't happen that I can think of is if you marked that word "I know this" on the quiz intro page when you first learned it, which starts every vector on a higher mastery (thus with a farther future date set to study). If that's not the case, that sounds like a bug and you should report it with the ? button in the top bar, including as many details as you can about which kanji/words are affected and which study vectors you're using, etc.

If you have a term that's already a high level in a kanji vector and answer a question correctly, the next study date will be several months away. Manually adjusting the mastery lower does not affect any dates that were already set, it only affects what the next interval will be when you answer the question again in a few months.

As far as I know, the only way to force a term to come up for review immediately is to get it wrong in a quiz. No matter what the mastery level is, if you get a question wrong it will always appear again tomorrow. That, or marking the whole term "unknown", which will affect every vector, not just your kanji vectors.

Thanks for your help. The new reviews for old terms have come through today so I can study them. I do wish there was a way to make them appear immediately for review after studying the kanji but if the next day is the best I can do that should be okay.
