To play games that are exclusively Japanese and save some cash on vintage games that run cheaper on the Japanese market (namely Gameboy & DS era Pokémon games.)
When I was little, my mom had a hiragana chart on the wall. From then on I wanted to learn all the kana and I've been learning ever since (I didn't start seriously learning until a couple years ago)
At first, I wanted to learn Japanese for fun and enjoy the language I studied for a month now and I realized that I can't just enjoy learning Japanese ( well I mean anyone can learn for fun if they like) just for fun. Now, my goal is to watch anime without subtitles and if I travel to Japan one day, then I want to learn as much Japanese as I can and maybe someday I can have a Japanese friend to communicate with
Because I grew up watching the anime Girls und Panzer and it has a rather slow episodic release date for Das Finale (One episode per year/Every other year) which at this rate would be in 2026 give or take when the final one comes out. And i think it'd be very funny if I can say that it took so long for the episode to come out that I went from not knowing a lick of Japanese to being conversational.
I'm pretty into Japanese media and have started running into an issue where much of what I'd like to read/watch/play simply isn't translated into English. It'd be nice to be able to enjoy those :)

I had the same issue, what Japanese video games are you planning to play (if any)?
My main motivation was discovering the Violet Evergarden light novels have not been translated into English and I really wanted to read them so I determined to learn the language so I can read more books! Later so I can read manga chapters faster before they're translated and I don't have to wait.

There's a lot of otome games that I want to play. Also stuff like model debut Nicola, or fabstyle.
It's a pretty cool language. It's got a great sound and it's fun to engage with. I decided to learn Japanese when I was younger, so it's the foreign language that have the most experience with.
In the beginning I wanted to learn because I fell in love with anime and manga. But as I learned about the language and the culture I fell in love with it again.
