I realise playing kana shiritori, along with doing the crosswords, has improved my spelling. Also I feel it's made me better at transcribing loanwords into katakana. Also occasionally it makes me happy when the definition appears for a word I played that I knew existed, but the meaning of which I had forgotten, so there's a kind of neat de-rusting effect.
For other Renshuu users, are there any other other benefits to playing Shiritori?
I learn all kinds of new words when I accidently spell my intended word wrong ;-)
And it's helped immensely with remembering proverbs. Keeping the exact phrasing right on those is hard without repeating it over and over, and the Shiritori makes it fun.
Shiritori definitely helps me recollect words that I may not use on a regular basis, ensuring that I do not forget them completely. I also find it exciting when I write a complex word without checking my spelling before submitting it (To be honest, I have had a few 'scares' when I submitted a word in Shiritori and I accidentally typed the wrong kana, so the word changed completely and became rude, lol)
Lol! Reminds me of the first time when I (innocently) played 尺八/しゃくはち, I learned it had another meaning!
Next time I play Shiritori and the letter is u I'm definitely going to play unchi!
If you type random words in Renshuu shows all the definitions which is really helpful
I've had to learn a whole bunch of words starting with る lol
Didn't know many before shiritori

My patience disappears when someone has already used ルバーブ (which is inevitable because I probably used it in the same round... )
