Plain form verb + というものでは (も) ない
Noun + (だ+) というものでは (も) ない
I-adjective + というものでは (も) ない
Na-adjective + というものでは (も) ない

What is the politeness of the grammar. It's awfully long, which makes me assume that its formal or higher. Is this something you will hear in everday conversation?

I have heard it in both casual conversation and polite. The ではない tends to change depending on the politeness level: I hear it as じゃない, but I have also heard it as ではありません. I would not say it fits into a single politeness level, but rather can be used in different settings.

Does a specific rule exist to use でもない over ではない? It seams random to me.
