Try this: go to the dictionary, look up 食, then for the mnemonics below it, tap the little icon of the "image", and download it. Let me know if that one works. That's a png (image), so I want to see if it is perhaps isolated to images (but pdfs work fine).

hmmm I pressed download and it went into ‘preparing’ and then turned back to download. But nothing else happened. Looked in my images and download folder but couldn’t find anything. Thanks
Further update - I've spent more time than I want to admit on the issue, and it boils down to what looks like an issue in the safari webkit engine that powers renshuu on iOS (a similar bug appears with Safari the browser in some cases).
I may just have to remove the download button on iOS/macOS devices :(
