Hyde from L-arc-en-Ciel and Gackt. Yeah, I am old. And yes, I know that the former can't carry a tune during live shows and the latter is just wasting his talents these days posing on instagram and coming up with his own cryptocurrency. But they were great in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
I love Band-Maid. I discovered them during lockdown, and they've easily become one of my favorite bands of any language. But most of the Japanese music I listen to is from the late 90s to early 2010s, like Ayumi Hamasaki, L'Arc-en-Ciel, Do As Infinity, Shiina Ringo and GO!GO!7188.
Surprised no one has yet mentioned porno graffitti. Name aside, they're a pretty good band (They're the guys that made the first FMA opening and the first MHA opening)
My favourite is Ryo Fukui, Jazz Artist, absolute genius imo. Apparently he started playing the piano at age 22 and released his first album at the age of 26 (or something like that). Tho he did play the accordion earlier, but it's still amazing imo.
