A few people have asked for this, so I wanted to flesh out the idea a bit before putting it in. Where do you think this option should be? I feel hesitant about putting it in the quiz setup page (for either regular or mastery) because it doesn't really 'fit' with the rest of the quiz options - it would feel like a bit of a kludge. It could be turned on once inside the quiz, maybe with a preference to keep it on once on? It could be an option in quiz settings: turn timer on for these question types: A, B, C (of course, with an option to turn it off during a quiz for that one quiz) I'm sure there are some other pitfalls, but I wanted to mention the big ones first.

I like the idea of having the clock ticking in the corner. Would it be possible to have a click to hide/show option on the timer? Also in the vein of the comment, would it be possible in the review quizzing, where you can have a multiple chapter review timed, to show how many questions remain. I use that feature to do "speed runs" through my vocabulary, and to create a good pace for test taking. I think this would be a very valuable feature.

Timers are a love'em, hate'em feature for me. If I knew my material, I'm sure they wouldn't bother me at all. They might even be fun, adding a bit of a gaming aspect to the quizzes. However, if I was struggling, having the added pressure of a timer would probably my teeth on edge. Cue panic attack (not really, but you get the idea). Therefore, while I love the idea of timers, especially for folks who really like them, I'm hoping they'll be optional. If you (as in you, マイコー) have the ability to customise them such that they show up on an as-needed, as-wanted basis (quiz-by-quiz, question-by-question or style-by-style), that would be ideal! I'd definitely turn them on when I'm confident and keep them off when I'm not. Perhaps they could be introduced by level, so level 1-4 terms are untimed but higher levels get more and faster timers? My rationale is, by the time a term hits level 5, one should be fairly confident with it. Here is another question, piggybacking on this topic: Would they be count-up timers (the faster you answer [correctly, of course], the more points you earn) or count-down timers (you have x-seconds to answer)? Summing up: great idea, I'm looking forward to hearing more about it!

I really like having the count up timers, that would be a nice feature. There would be less added pressure, and it would also give you the time, if you needed, to finish any terms. Also the count up timer might be a great way to get ready for standardized exams.

If I do add it, it will be optional, and I want it to have enough flexibility (counting up, down, etc) so that it is useful for more than a tiny subset of the users. I am not sure if I will get it in during the current beta round (heading back to the States for three weeks next month), but this definitely is an idea I want to stick with.
