I am trying to distinguish the difference between and つもり and I presume is used when you have something scheduled and planned whereas つもり is where you intend to do something. Correct?

That sounds good to me - つもり also has usages past verbs, as noted on the grammar page :)

That's not really a plan, though. It's more natural to say that you have no plans to do something

するがない

than saying that you plan to not do it. I'd expect it to be something closer to しないつもり for that one.
