I was playing Shiritori Cat against Kiki and they played にほんりょうり. I thought "haha it'd be funny if I played りょうり" but it just kept giving me the message "Sorry, only words in the site's dictionary may be used". I could be misunderstanding something, but shouldn't I be able to put りょうり in since it was a new word and on its own? If not that, shouldn't it say "that word has already been played" instead? Also it is in the site's dictionary? I even tried playing a match against the same cat until I could play りょうり and it worked just fine then. Not sure if I'm just missing something but I thought I'd say something just in case it was a bug.
Normally you couldn't play りょうり after にほんりょうり because it is fully contained at the end of the word (as highlighted)
The error message should be this one:"You cannot use a word that is entirely contained in the previous entry."
A word like りょうりちょう , on the other hand, would be valid.
I would suggest that a likely explanation is, you inadvertently tried to play りようり (with a large よ) instead of りょうり. Mistakes like this are common and hard to spot.
Or, maybe, りょうり is already included in にほんりょうり, so maybe because of that?

I probably should've had this in the initial post but this is a screenshot from when I tried to use りょうり (I think it's not using a large よ? りょうり not りようり?) . So it would still be some kind of error because it gave me the wrong "you can't use this word" message, right?
@ビグヴァムパ Yup, as mentioned previously, you can't play りょうり here, because it only overlaps with the りょうり in にほんりょうり. It's like if you had せんせい and tried to play せい.

The error message is definitely wrong, but I'm not sure if there *is* a message specifically for this case. I tested it, and it always gives you the "Sorry, only words in the site's dictionary can be used" message in this kind of situation. I'd say it's worth catching this case, and having a custom message for it (assuming it doesn't exist already).
