掲示板 Forums - Duolingo Super / Max for free legitimately?

Hello, everyone! I'm a language learning enthusiast whose dream is to become a polyglot, and I'm serious about it. I'm currently learning Japanese and Chinese. I have also started recently to learn Korean. I am an absolute beginner in both Chinese and Korean. In this phase the only the thing that works well with me is duolingo. Since I don't afford paying for apps, does anyone know legitimate ways to get Duolingo Super/Max for free? If anyone has experience with this, I’d be interested in hearing what you know.

P.S Promo codes just don't work whatsoever, neither in the app nor the desktop, so it's an invalid option in my case, unfortunately.

- I know that nothing grants free Super/Max permanently, which is fine.

- Using the 7 day free trial needs my credit card details which is unacceptable for me, to be honest.

- Sorry, may you please re-explain, where can I check out the promotions offered by Duolingo's partners?

- Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who has Duolingo family plan.

- Don't worry, I'd never put my device at the risk of using any modified apps or sus APKS or anything as such.

- As for the heart system, I don't think you are a duolingo user, because duolingo has replaced the heart system with the "energy bar" system. With the heart system, you lose hearts when you make mistakes, but with the energy bar system, you lose points with each question whether you answer correctly or wrong. Let me show you a screenshot of a user's review.

Yeah, the core courses have always been free, but the energy bar system is their current strategy to force people into subscription.

Yes, it does exist. However, as you already mentioned it's too lagging. And you know what? I don't mind that, but their strategy on the browser version (at least with me), after 3-4 questions, the screen would go blank and stay frozen forever. I have tried everything, but no matter what, the frozen, blank screen after a couple of questions is just the theme of my browser version.

Hi! Have you considered looking into some potential alternatives to Duo?

I'm not an expert as I haven't studied Korean or Chinese (yet? haha) but before I found renshuu I was using Memrise which is an app similar to Duo. It does have both Korean and Chinese if you select English as the language you speak. Might be worth looking into, though it's been a while since I've used it, so I don't know if it's become bothersome with some tedious energy system or whatnot.

Or perhaps Anki with some gamefication add-ons if it's that part of Duo that's working for you?

As for anki, I used to have it but uninstalled it a while ago, because anki lacks the drilling and exercises part, which is what I need ALONG with the repetition style (or you call it SRS, I guess) and that's exactly what Duolingo provides. I also didn't know that I could add gamefication add-ons to it. But how can one do that? And which add-ons?

I have tried memrise. IT'S GREAT! It's meant for me 😂 As far as I'm concerned, this is the better version of anki, which is exactly what works for me. And don't worry. It's free. Every now and then I got the "go pro" screen, but it wasn't invasive, so it's fine. I'm really grateful for your help. Thank you so much! ​Yeah, Anki is more repetition tool than learning tool at the end of the day that's true.

There are so many add ons I was shocked . I'm not using any fun ones as I want Anki to go quickly but one could um train pokemon (Ankimon), or have it show you a cute kitty or doggy picture every now and then lol. Just google Anki gamification for many many options if you're curious.

One add on that I'm using is a very basic Review heatmap. Great for visualising your progress and very motivating for me. I looove my green squares.

For installing generally is: find one you like -> find the code for it on its page (for example for heatmap its 1771074083, in the little box in the download section) -> open Anki -> Tools -> Add ons -> get add ons -> insert the add on code -> OK.

I really appreciate the time that you spent in answering and explaining in such a simple, and clear manner. I'll make sure to copy both this explanation and the one about Duolingo's partners from セージ (I'm sorry for not mentioning your full name. ​As for your question about learning Korean just by watching Kdramas, when you remove the (just) part, it will be yes, you definitely can. Why am I saying that? From my own experience with Japanese learning (and my endless research in this regard), I have been watching anime for years and years. My ears picked up many phrases and grammar patterns that I never understood. For example, I used to hear (....... verb + kureru), or (........ nakute mo ii), and so on. I would always wonder what these expressions meant. I never had the answer until I started learning grammar (here on renshuu). So, immersion (in your case watching Kdramas) makes the mission much much easier, because you would then be learning something you are already familiar with and kinda know, but just needed some deciphering.
