Hi, can someone point me to an explanation of how leveling up is done in renshuu? I always thought it is based on how many terms you study, but lately it seems to me that I need to study more terms than previously (400+ vs. 300 or even 200) to go up one level. Also, there seems to be some bias on new terms, as in new terms would get you more percentage than a repeat term.
It is a bit demotivating and I only have 40 minutes a day, 6 days a week, so I find it hard to fit 400 terms within that time limit.
As far as I know, and this makes perfect sense to me, there is no bias towards new term. How much it takes for you to level is based on a 7-ish day moving average. Someone who studies 100 terms a day levels at the same rate as someone who studies ten thousand. The idea being to promote consistency.
On average, you generally gain no more than 2 levels a day (this is averaged over a long period of time). This includes hitting "soft cap" on games/forum XP. Shiritori being the fastest way to hit that. From my experience, XP you gain from quizzing and XP you gain from "games" is on separate DR, or in separate "buckets" (to use a gaming term).
There's no need to hit 400 terms to gain your 1.5ish levels/day. You can gradually drop that back down to 100-200 and start leveling at the same rate as you maintain. I've done it before, and it takes a few days for the average to recalculate, so you'll get a bit less XP during that time (I think), but after that it's normal. I went from doing over two thousand to around 300 a day. Exactly the same XP.
I recommend just studying however much is "natural" for you, don't try to hit some sort of quota. That doesn't really do anything :)
PS: I haven't noticed any difference in XP gain lately. It's been practically the same for the roughly 1.5 years I've been on the platform.
