They are similar like a, e, o are similar in Latin script.
You should try to write them, and focus not on the final static image, but on the dynamic motion while writing, then their differences will be more visible. The movements to draw them are different.
Write them everyday for a few day (or more if you want/need to) Try to recall them first and if you can, just look at the kana and write them.
You can also try to write cleanly or try a few variations/styles too. That can be fun and just because it's fun, it's easier to remember. Writing word that contains those kana can be useful too. Copying those words, I mean, not recalling.
Japanese don't really try to recall the kana and the kanji first too. They just copy the same kana or kanji over and over. It look like that.
That will help you with smaller details. As you can see, they have an example on the top and even the stroke order. It seems like a boring and slow exercises but honnestly, it the best way to learn the kana imo (kanji as well). Because that what allow Japanese to recognize kana or kanji fast. You need to pay attention to the detail for that kind of exercise and your brain will memorize those details if you do that exercise. Ah and that sheet come from renshuu btw if you want to try (in the ressources section).

ぬ always has a little curve め doesn’t then ね has a little curve れ looks like their is a little し at the end finally わ looks like it has a big つ at the end.
With れ for me works think that look like a r, more or less, for わ you can think that is curve like a WAter ballon, and for ね i don't know, i used to know like discard.
For ね and ぬ (and technically な too), I learned to pay attention to the loop at the bottom right. If they have the loop, you know it's one of the "n" kana. That basically removed the confusion, so for め and れ I just had to remember M and R.
Another thing that helps a little with れ is that it looks a little like a lowercase cursive R in English.
For わ, it's kind of dumb, but I just think it kind of looks like if you drew the wide open mouth of someone saying "WAAAA".
My favorite for わ (wa) is warios big fat dumpy, because WArio is curvaceous and has a large bottom. which someone posted on renshuu a while ago.
For distinguishing め(me) and ぬ(nu) I think of the word "menu" which helps me to remember that their similar but that more expensive stuff is at the end of a menu and the little extra loop in nu costs more.
oh there is a mnemonic for めand ぬ . which is like end of the menu costs extra money that's why nu has an extra loop. you get it? me nu as is めぬ ? I like this one helped me a lot.
