when doing listening quizzes, there's the challenge of homophones. Many of these can be handled with pitch accent but a lot of peeps aren't studying them nor good enough to discern them.
I think an interesting solution would be a button on the side of the quiz that if pressed lists all the homophones (that you've studied) that are not the correct answer similar to the "click to show definition" button on certain questions.
Personally, I think the button should punish you with a wrong answer if the word has no known homophones but I feel that might be a little cruel.
I'm probably not going to be adding any extra UI to the quizzes, simply to try and keep it from getting any more complex than it already is.
I think this is where the sentences can become really helpful! In reality you will almost never encounter a word in complete isolation, and there is always some sort of context that you are able to use to consciously and/or subconsciously to interpret the words you are hearing or reading. I'm not sure if you have it turned on but there is an option to review words in the context of sentences on the front of the card, however even if you aren't reviewing that vector, as I progressed beyond beginner and further into Intermediate level, I found it beyond helpful to make a point to listen to at least one sentence (or read if there's no audio sentence) for each word I'm reviewing rather than just blasting through my decks as fast as possible. This will improve your reading and listening skills and also strengthen the associations in your mind with various homophones.
If it is a problem when you are just reading or hearing the word in isolation, I try to practice bringing all of the homophones I know to mind before revealing the multiple choice answers (I highly recommend using the hide the multiple choice answers option as it forces you to use your own recall before seeing the answer and connecting it which is usually easier and doesn't actually strengthen your own recall as much). If I didn't successfully bring them all to mind or I guessed the wrong one, then I fail that card for that learning session (even if I technically clicked the right answer), and having it come up a second time that day at the end of the quiz and then again the next day usually helps solidify it in my memory even more. Said another way, failing the cards I need more practice with usually strengthens my memory of them (including my memory of many homophones!)
Hope this helps! Renshuu is packed with amazing features that it took me a long time to actually realize how powerful of a language learning app it truly is! Above and beyond anything else I've found and I've used them ALL!! haha
