I started the Beginner/N5 schedules today and the frequency words grammar lesson mentions that "making nouns negative" was a subject that had been taught already. I keep pretty detailed notes from the grammar lessons for the sake of easy review later, but I have nothing that indicates "negative nouns" were ever brought up. I'm hoping I'm either just slightly confused, or somehow overlooked something. I hope someone can point me in the right direction! Thanks!
I'm very sorry I can't help perfectly but I think I can give some advice on pointing you towards farther help
you could contact the creator in the mail and he might be able to help but also curtain YouTube videos could just show you what the negative nouns are but also next to the home button there is a question mark (I'm not sure what it is ) if you went onto that it might guide you to asking questions and that might help
i hope this helps (indirectly) if not I hope you get the answer soon and good luck with your Japanese studies 🇯🇵
You can access an overview of all the grammar lessons by going to the Menu > Resources > Japanese Lessons. In this case, "negative nouns" were briefly mentioned in the lesson "Simple sentence withです" of Japanese Basics.
Negative nouns basically mean "isn't/is no noun" You just need to add じゃない + です (casual version) or ではありません (formal version).
Example sentences:
これは木じゃないです。 = This isn't a tree./This is no tree.
問題ではありません。= There isn't a question./There is no question.
Hopefully this is what you were looking for. Otherwise, feel free to ask.
As マイロー pointed out, this is mentioned in the very first of the Japanese Basics lessons for sentences with です.
The part in the lesson uses this sentence as an example: "わたしはカナダじんじゃないです 。"
It says you drop です (but it's in the sentence anyway; this is just merely to add politeness), as the basic premise of the sentence to make the noun negative is simply "noun + じゃない".
There's more to it, but this is all to keep it simple.
