it is written in kana, and shows up on a card in kana. frequency from jpdb and jmdictdb shows that ギリギリ is more common (66% versus ぎりぎり at 33% and then extremely rare kanji usage of 限り限り. renshuu's dictionary always seems to prioritize hiragana over katakana, but even here it is ぎりぎり for hiragana but then says rare for kanji, and the katakana is listed as secondary.
when i export this ぎりぎり (hiragana) card, with test format of [kanji] sep [kana] or even with [kpair] as the auto-dual with slash separator, the kanji is exported. yes, 限り限り is the valid kanji, but this should not be the form exported without at least some rare flag, and especially because the format no longer corresponds with the ぎりぎり (though it should be ギリギリ) form that appears in renshuu dictionary and card.
i have to reply in different thread here about how to go about fixing default kana forms here, but for at least rare flagged kanji, they should not be exported in the same way without at least some rare flag or other delimiter that can be processed by the user later.
i really think that it is important for learners to study the most common form of a word first, whether that is hiragana, katakana, or kanji (even though i am myself very biased toward kanji for most words, or for at least knowing them), or at least know which one is the most common. studying rare forms as the "default" i think is unnecessarily awkward.
The export system does not touch the dictionary at all in terms of looking to see what term is more or less common - it is only looking at the specific form of the word that is in the list/schedule/search (or wherever you happen to be exporting from).
I am not sure I'll be able to make any changes to the export system in the near future, and recommend that you use the API for anything that requires attention to flags, etc.
hello, Michael! thank you for the response! OK, I understand. as a future thing far down on the priority list should it ever come up, I think that when exporting, a priority flag/field should be noted as whatever the user is getting quizzed on within renshuu, be it the kanji form, katakana form, or hiragana form. thx 4 all ur hard work!!
