Hello. I'm thinking of going to a Japanese university in the future, as I wish for it to be there.
A few questions though. What should I expect? What are Japanese universities like? How hard are they? How hard is it to get in one? What makes my application solid for Japanese universities?
What is daily life like there? What areas are good for living in? What is the job culture like there? What should I expect in my daily life? As well as anything else that may be helpful for me to know.
ありがとう
Most of these questions I can't answer as someone who is also aiming for university in Japan, however as far as requirements go I can try to explain what I know.
There are two primary tests you need to have in mind:
- EJU: This is the test for foreigners entering Japanese universities. It covers the language and math, and then you have to pick either science or history as your third area to cover.
- JLPT: The Japanese language proficiency test. Only necessary if the university you're going to doesn't need the EJU (some specialized schools don't use the EJU). Most universities want at least N2-level Japanese, of course N1 is preferable.
The EJU can only be taken in person in Japan and countries surrounding it, such as Korea or the Philippines. However the JLPT is held basically worldwide.
I know this doesn't answer much, but hopefully it helps a little! 頑張って!

Thanks! This is quite helpful, I really appreciate it.
頑張って to you as well!
ハデクヨン explained most of what i know too but also u should look into MEXT scholarship where u can get money support from japanese government. and about the EJU, u need to figure out if u are wanting to apply to japanese university program in english or in japanese. if u are wanting to go to japanese university in japanese u need to pass those tests, but what some students do is spent 1-2 years in language school in japan after completing secondary school in home country, while working part time job バイト to help pay. these language schools are for these students (16-19 years old) and also have special classes for studying for EJU and help with preparing for entering university examinations and for helping apply to universities. if u just want to apply directly from outside japan u need N2 as a minimum. there are some english only programs that dont have japanese requirement but ur going to be very limited because only a few schools and programs are like this. something u might want to do is pass N2 but then still take 6 months of language school & EJU studies in japan to ease ur transition into japan and university life there.
i clicked ur profile and so from ur country i think also something u can do because u live in capital is call or email your japanese embassy if u have questions (information is on the right) or just show up and ask in person because u are in same city, they can provide information specific to students from ur country that are going to be better answers than u find online i think at times. also, ur government might also have special programs that can help you with payment money if u are motivated and can apply for them.
