There's commas after, for example, は in sentences. Why? It doesn't seem to change the meaning of the sentence. And how to know when to put commas in your sentences?

Commas don’t mean anything. They are typically used in dialogue to indicate short pauses. In expository writing they may be used to clarify the structure of a sentence.

In addition to pauses, they often take the place of は in spoken speech.

Thank you for clarifying that point, which I meant to cover but didn’t. To be precise, は is often replaced by a short pause in causal speech, and these short pauses are indicated by commas.
