So what are you all doing special on this Christmas! I will be happy to hear all the different thoughts =)
Just hanging out with my family. Currently trying to decide what dishes I want for Christmas Eve. We have this tradition where you're not supposed to eat meat, and the number of dishes has to be odd. I think it's more of an Eastern / Central Europe thing. Pretty sure not eating meat is a thing elsewhere, but not the number of dishes.
For Christmas, I'll probably just check out a few Christmas markets, get some mulled wine, and hand out with friends and family. Nothing too interesting, I guess.
Looks like we might get some snow on the 25th, but who knows. Hopefully it's not just rain
For me, maybe I will go to mall for buying stuffs like new clothes etc and also play some games. Then later, maybe go to my grandma's house for few days. For my satisfaction I'm working on a drawing. . I really wish something exciting happens as the year ends. Nothing too interesting here too 🤣. As life gets older, do we really get bored from the things we found happy before?
Won't be doing anything special, which suits me just fine. How do people ever get bored? No chance of a white Christmas, so snow-related activities will have to wait until February or so, but I can't wait to get some long-overdue rest, have time for my hobbies (Japanese study, yay!) and spend a quiet Christmas with my partner, then meet friends. My parents might come visit briefly, but we've had our get-together just last week and once every few months is all both sides can tolerate.
I don't particularly like crowds, so the gifts are bought, wrapped, and hidden away in the dark bowels of the wardrobe. No Christmas tree, but I have more house plants than furniture, so I just decorated those. (Side rant: how is it that I can do origami, write squiggly kanji, knit and do other detail-intensive tasks, but when I have to wrap a present the result is a crumpled, wonky, sad mess that looks like it got chewed up and spat out by Mr. Oogie Boogie?)
There's a thought - I might re-re-[...]rewatch The Nightmare Before Christmas. People around here like to stick with the tradition of Home Alone every single Christmas, but I think I know every punchline by heart. Favourite Christmas films, anyone?
Speaking of traditions, @ギョルギ九十三 - what an interesting one, not having meat for your Christmas meal! Around here it's pork, pork, pork as far as the eye can see. But hey, thanks to that I often find marked-down seafood in supermarkets during this season!
Whatever you do, I hope you spend wonderful, fulfilling holidays, everyone. Each of you has a part in what Renshuu is now, and I'm glad you exist.
My favourite X-mas movie you say ? 😼 It's Polar Express the OG/Classic one baby! And also Home Alone. And also Dr. Seuss' The Grinch (2018). 🫡🪲🍀⚽️
@むじな I think it's called the Nativity Fast in English. Technically meant to be between the 15th of November and *24th of December. It's just that a lot of people don't follow it super strictly, so they just do the last day (Christmas Eve). We absolutely have a bunch of pork on Christmas day (25th) :D
*For some countries it would be the 28th of November - 6th of January.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas :)
I'm just having a pretty normal Christmas this year. Seeing family, gift exchanges... Nothing out of the ordinary.
That is, unless I spot サンタさん.
Oh, oh, oh, @ハデクヨン, if you do see サンタさん , can you tell him all of us on Renshuu have been particularly いい子(いいこ)?
And @ギョルギ九十三, nooow I know what you mean! We have that too - in theory, no dairy, meat, eggs, tobacco, alcohol or intimate relations during fasting. Some just ignore it, others check the label on their store-bought biscuits to avoid any "may contain traces of egg protein or powder milk". Followed by the equally traditional Christmas overeating. :))
As usual, I'll be spending a quiet Christmas with the family. Our Christmas tradition is homemade Italian meatballs on Christmas Eve and some lovely French toast in the morning... with presents afterward of course.
Christmas will most likely be followed by a chaotic trip to the mall and a weeklong visit with grandparents in North Carolina Spending time with the relatives is always an adventure.
By the way @むじな, I too am a big fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas. As an occasional dabbler in stop-motion animation, I'm always amazed by all the work that goes into it. However, I'd have to say that Elf is my favorite Christmas movie. Klaus on Netflix is a close second
Wait, how could I forget the Christmas film? Satoshi Kon's 東京ゴッドファーザーズ! (sorry for hogging the thread, I'll shut up now)
You don't have to shut up you just need to cram your senence together and still make sence sometimes.
And my fav is Nightmare Before Cristmas but I can NEVER watch it cos my mum doesn't like it...

This is so real, you have to switch it up with the comedies otherwise they aren't funny anymore I say at least two years before rewatching is needed to forget enough of the jokes
Ignore the top, apparently quotes stach the wrong way now? (I guess I have to make separate posts)

I just watched this like, yesterday. I had never heard of it before I
Picking a favorite Christmas movie is hard but obviously Home Alone and A Christmas Story are classics
Anyway I will travel to my grandma's to visit that side of the family, the other side is being total mud this year so I don't even know what's going on with them anymore I might or might not eat the traditional blintzes, depending on how muddy they are being
