Does anyone have like any advice how to remember words really good bc I forget everything so fast and I really want to remember them (。ŏ﹏ŏ)
You are actually very good at remembering words, at least in your native language. Transferring that skill to Japanese is simply a matter of building up the linguistic fundamentals that act as a prerequisite. Really pay attention to pronunciation and spelling. Take note of how a word is used. Practice using it. Your memory will improve dramatically.
Not all words will be easy but there are some fun ones that are much easier to remember because they sound like something you know or have special meaning:
たまねぎ = ball onion so cute and i can remember it easily now as ねぎ is spring onion and たま is ball. So this is the name for the round onion.
歌手 = singer. 2 ways to remember, the second kanji is a hand. Singer holds microphone in hand. 2nd version: the word looks like cashew (nuts) so that might also help.
It's true, it can be frustrating, but let's try to look at it like this: Why do you think you forget "fast"? What would be an "acceptable" time to forget? Never? That just won't happen. I bet your brain does a great job trying to help you, it's just that sometimes we need to forget ten times before we remember.
You can help your brain by making sure Japanese is really a part of your life, not just a parallel world limited to your practice time. You walk to the bus stop — you can think 歩く. You pass some cars - think 車. You pass a hundred cars? Think 車 a hundred times. :)) What colours are they? Maybe you don't know the name of one of those colours — when you can, look it up and then, next time you're out (or even in your room), look around for things that have that colour. It's small games like this that signal to our brains "hey, this is relevant and useful, you need to remember this for good, not just until the next quiz".
It's normal, seriously. Everyone is like that at the beginning.
I struggled with a few words per week at the beginning but now, I can learn 50 words per day without struggling if I already studied the kanji before. It's more like remembering combination of kanji rather learning a new words.
So instead of worrying about not being able to remember words for now (like literally everyone), worry about being able to study consistently =p. Seriously, I wish I could transfer my memory of me at the beginning compared to me right now xD. I understand that feeling but at the same time, I want to scream "Yeah, ME TOO, BEFORE...". But fight against that god damn voice and ignore it xD. The only important things is to stay consistent at the beginning, not your learning speed, effiency or the number of time you failed to remember a word x)
When it comes to remember anything, for me the best is writing it while I'm learning it, it helps my brain to think of the word twice at a time by reading it an writing it at the same time. However, I understand that there are various types of learners, some are writing learners (they learn better by writing it various times ), others are graphic learners (they learn better by seeing or reading it various times), voice learners (they learn better by saying it out loud), etc.
You just have to find out which method work better for you and use it to improve your learning experience. I hope this helps!
Off topic, but we stumbled on to one of my pet peeves. Research has shown that learning styles is a myth. It’s a lazy philosophy that educators have been using to side step doing the hard work of developing new skills. Yes, different people have different strengths and weaknesses, and some people have learning disabilities, but everyone can learn using every technique. Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not a visual learner. That’s baloney.
