Ok here it is
Sorry it’s kinda long, but I got a lot of stuff
. I’d really appreciate any and all feedback. Also I’m happy to answer questions.
Disclaimer: a lot of stuff in here related to Game development is stuff that I modified how it works for the convenience of my story/lore, and is therefore not entirely accurate to real life.
Disclaimer #2: this is gonna be kinda confusing
First off, I have to explain the game idea:
The player is in a video game (I mean, the setting is literally a video game). The people of this game (the NPCs) have discovered certain locations that seem extra unstable, allowing them to use glitches to essentially teleport, and do other strange things, generally associated with movement. The actual game is an online shooter in a similar style to that of splatoon. You can use certain glitches to move around (teleportation, hovering for a short time, glitching through certain walls etc.) and complete objectives and attack the enemy players, you know, classic shooter. This multiplayer part of the game takes place in different places of a city where it is unstable and extra easy to glitch the way you want. (Btw, when I say glitch, I mean as an in game feature, not actual glitches)
The devs:
The devs (not the real developers (which would be me)) made a game that was so realistic that the NPCs discovered glitches in their world and used them unfairly against the players, essentially deeming their game unplayable. They decided to continue development anyways though, just as an experiment to see how the NPCs would continue developing their society. But they didn’t want the NPCs to discover that they’re in a game otherwise it may ruin their experiment. So they patch certain glitches that they think might reveal to the NPCs that they are in a game. This includes making it so most NPCs aren’t able to use certain glitches (I’ll touch on this in a sec)
UAAs
To make the NPCs less suspicious, the devs patch the glitches when the NPCs are in their mid teens (in-game years) so that they just assume that this is a part of puberty. UAAs (UnAltered Anomalies), on the other hand, are NPCs that were never patched. Other NPCs don’t take them seriously, because they think that they never really finished puberty, therefore are not mature.
HACCRs
The HACCRs (Handed-down Anomalous Controlled Conveyance Researchers. Pronounced “hacker” lol, I think I want to come up with another name for them) are a group of UAAs that have decided to research glitches. The start of the campaign for the game (like the actual game that I’m developing) is when you meet them.
Jump points
Jump points are spots on the map that are extremely unstable and allow unaltered NPCs to glitch to them from any point on the map (essentially just fast-travel) These spots aren’t patched by the devs because they don’t see JPs as much of a threat to their experiment. They’ve invented portals to allow non-anomalies to travel from one to another, but these are really big and cost a lot of power, so there aren’t very many of them through the city.
The Edge of the World
The edge of the world is just the part of the area that the Devs haven’t finished developing yet. This is the area that the HACCRs have been doing their experiments, as it is extremely easy to glitch there.
NUTs
NUTs (Normal Unintelligent Trooper. This acronym works well with a lot of other things (that I am not going to tell you bc then I’d be going too deep into this)) are NPCs that the Devs made (and gave pretty bad AO so they wouldn’t rebel) to guard the Edge of the World from the other NPCs. They are this game’s equivalent to Octoling troopers. There are slightly more intelligent NUTs (boss fights)
