Hi there! I know that there are lots of creatives on renshuu, and whether you're a wannabe writer, game developer, or manga creator, this is a place where you can share, brainstorm, and get feedback on your stories and ideas! I know that I personally benefit a lot from bouncing ideas off of others, so I hope this thread can be helpful for those looking to do the same
Disclaimer:
This thread is not for short, rapid-fire discussions. When possible, try to be thorough in your replies instead of writing many ideas or suggestions separately
That being said, have fun and let your creativity shine!
UNNAMED STORY IDEA:
A young man wakes up on a beach in the body of a strange cat-like water sprite named Brine. He remembers nothing except that he fell asleep at his desk and he is now stuck in a dream. Next to him is a journal. Every time he dies, the dream and all his memories reset, but everything in the journal stays. He has the feeling that the way to leave the dream is somewhere out at sea, so he keeps making rafts and learning which islands to avoid and which ones to check out. He finds bookmarks that make him remember everything up to that moment, even through resets. He makes friends and enemies. He learns about things that he did in real life. Things he regrets. He starts to question if the journal really IS telling him things that happened from previous resets, or if it is a malicious magic item attempting to keep him trapped.
The whole thing would be an animated series using a pixel art style similar to the cutscenes from Oneshot (but fully animated instead of just a few picturebook-like frames. It would have a lot of breakcore music in it.
MAIN THEME IDEA: Castaway by Derivakat.
END CREDITS IDEA: Melody by Derivakat.
I am very open to ideas and suggestions!
Awesome! If that became a game, I'd play it until I explored every single island and found every possible ending.
The premise sounds a lot like this awesome (albeit a bit dark) book, Piranesi. (Full synopsis on Wikipedia.)
I agree, it's a really cool concept! Reminds me a bit of a Ducktales episode
I've got an idea: what if every time he woke up, the island changed just a little bit? Like something's a different color or maybe in a different place? That would create even more suspicion and uneasiness, and it could be a neat little thing for players to notice as they progress
Interesting . I do want to keep it as a show so that I can have more control over the plot and scenes (I imagined it as a game at first; it surprisingly wouldn't work too well as a big part is the character NOT exactly remembering stuff from past runs and relying on the scribbly notes he put in the journal)
Though I like the idea of it changing, I want it to be more about your actions changing the world instead of the world changing your actions. I'll remember that idea for the future tho
I really like this idea. It could really add a level of deepened to the story that would be hard to replicate. Like what if the things that changed could give him clues to what the heck is going on.
Also Kirb I really like the idea of the pixel art. I’ve never heard of anything like that in a show. I will say though, that it will require much, MUCH more work than usual, but I think the result would be worth it. Just in case though, you should prob try doing a trial episode just so you don’t waste time animating an entire series to find out it doesn’t look good.
Anyways I think this is a really sick premise. (And I think breakcore will work well with it, especially if there’s a lot of action)
