If I'm being honest I would like this app more if it had chatting systems to talk to ur friends for help or smt why did they remove it? I didn't understand the dev when he explained it.
Put simply, because if someone in chat offends, hurts, cons or abuses someone else, "the app" is responsible. Even more so because Renshuu is also used by minors. So it would need to hire moderators (or find many volunteers to moderate) to constantly check every single message so bad things don't happen. Since this app is almost entirely managed by one person, that's not possible. For the same reason, users are advised not to carry on so-called "low value" chats, where you have a hundred pages of "hi how u" "I'm good yeah" "lol" "yeah lol" "you too" and so on.
There is always the Renshuu Discord, though.
Yeah but the ppl who don't have discord get left out
I understand, and that is a pity. But left out of what? This app is not meant for socialising. Users are here primarily to study, not make friends. For Japanese and Japan related questions, they have the forum. For socialising, there are other apps. It's like feeling sorry that you can't eat soup with a screwdriver.
Also, Discord is free and open, getting a Discord account is as easy as it was to get a Renshuu. There is, of course, the issue of people like minors, who have social media apps blocked on their devices. But in that case, they are blocked for a good reason, and that reason would be the same if Renshuu had a chat.
Maybe this is a dumb comment, I don't know. But I've found attending actual Japanese classes is a good way to meet and socialise with other learners of Japanese.
みじな is 100% correct on this - it is simply not possible for me or even me + volunteers to manage a higher level of "socializing", and with a lot of laws getting considered passed throughout the world putting more responsibilities on websites/apps managing user content, it simply becomes too dangerous for me as an individual to handle all of that - I cannot afford a user safety team, legal fund, etc.
