I have a few different beginner schedules going at once, but one thing that bothers me is that several of the same words will appear in each schedule, even if I've already studied them in a separate schedule that day. Example: I study 話す in Japanese Basics, but it still shows up in Words for Beginner Japanese, even in the same day.
Is there any way to change this? I'd like to streamline everything so I'm not having to repeat studying words as if they're different.
Actually the data model can handle that quite well. I‘d assume you are being asked different things, so you don‘t really get the exact same test question. So you are asked about meaning (eng-jap, jap-eng) or reading, with/without kanji, …
If that‘s still bothering you, you can create your own schedule and add all the vocabulary from your mentioned schedules. This way you can define to not ask the same item more than once a day.
I don't know if you can remove a word from a schedule after you've "studied" it for the first time, but when you're learning new words, at the bottom of the word definition page there should be a button saying something like "I already know this" and if you click that it'll skip that word in that particular schedule, but it shouldn't remove it from any other schedules.

What that does is change the word's mastery level depending on what option you click on, so I wouldn't recommend doing it in this case.

Thank you! It's not quite that, but it did help me figure out why at least a couple of the words are duplicated! Same meaning, same pronunciation, different kanji. I studied 勤める (つとめる) earlier today in one schedule, then came across 務める in a separate schedule (and yes, they have 2 different mastery levels). It's a bit annoying, especially that the two words aren't linked (and labeled "alternate kanji" or something... but to be fair, I don't yet understand why the same word is sometimes spelled using a different kanji), but at least I understand why now!

I don't know the correct terminology but it's a similar case to ikiru
生きる and 活きる. both mean to live (among other things). the first one is more literal as in being alive and breathing and the second is more living your life kinda living. they are still pretty much the same word but depending on the kanji the meaning slightly changes, which kinda makes it a different word.
like you can probably get away with just using one of those but if you consume media you'll defo notice the difference of when they are used and I think it's good to have both learned as separate words that just are like homophone synonyms for now.
I've had to do this sometimes. Not necessarily for removing things from schedules, but to rearrange/create schedules to fit my needs so that I have them in certain schedules, but not all of them (but one can remove them wholesale if necessary, but there's other ways to do that).
There are several ways to move/remove items from schedules simultaneously, they all basically access the same feature to do it:
Go to your schedule, use the dictionary, use the community lists, or even Advanced Search. Doesn't matter, it's on all of them.
Find the offending word(s) you need to deal with, and on the upper right of that is a big green + (Add) sign.
Click that + Add icon.
It will bring up the pop up that shows which schedule it's included and excluded, whether it's on a list you've saved (left column), or the schedules you have (right column). The checkmark indicates it is already in that list, which then implies that the unchecked lists/schedules do not include it. Basically, you have to uncheck the schedule to remove it from that schedule, and check the unchecked ones that you want to include it if you so desire.
The only catch here is that you have to do this for every word you wan to deal with individually, so it's best to directly use the schedule that you have all these things (such as your vocabulary schedule).
That is all there is to it. So you have total control on what to include or not include, other than creating/manipulating entire schedules themselves.
