掲示板 Forums - によって Vs. というのは

I am struggling to grasp the difference between these. According to the definitions, they both sort of mean "because."
によって expresses the "cause" for something (often used in writing and news). - 大雪によって、電車は2時間以上も遅れました。
というのは is more about explaining or defining something. - 「コンビニ」というのはコンビニエンスストアのことだ。
によって can also show "by whom" something is done - これは有名な作家によって書かれた小説です。(というのは doesn't work like that)
I'm a bit tired, my bad if I mess up or miss anything
Here, I'll give you some links:
About によって
About というのは
I think that website's fine, I personally haven't used it much.
You can also look them up on Renshuu's grammar dictionary.
Oh, and you can go to the Grammar Library and look them up to get some more examples. You can also try to write your own to practice.
Thanks, those links helped.
Thinking of によって as "due to,"
and というのは is "that is to say,"
