i have been trying to learn Japanese for a few months, and am thinking about getting a beginner textbook? i have heard a lot of negative things online about JP textbooks, so i am not sure if its worth it, but i find it easier to focus with physical texts. if i were to get one, i would be between Minna No Nihongo I or Tobira beginner I (not too interested in genki). if anyone has any comparison between them or general textbook advice, thanks~ kao_heart.pngneko_what.png

Textbooks are pretty good for learning the basics of reading/sentence structure. If anything, buying one would only make you more invested in your studies, therefore making it harder to suddenly quit. If you don’t need one now, wait until the textbook you’re eyeing is on sale (then buy).

If you want textbook recommendations, Japanese from Zero is one I personally recommend; it has a YouTube channel and website that you can also use that follow a similar path to the textbook. The teaching style is also easy to follow~
