I use google to log in to renshuu on the iOS app. I have no clue if this is a google issue or a renshuu issue but I have to log back in often and it seems to be getting worse. It started with every couple of days and it’s multiple times a day now, for days in a row.
Is this a known issue?
Have you ever tried to tick the box " keep me logged in"...??
Because when I was new too...I need to keep logging in, until I found out there was this option
Do you have version 1.15.17 of the iOS app, released April 29, 2025? It should significantly improve this issue. Alternatively, I suppose it’s possible that it broke something and is the cause of your problem.
Now that my attention has been drawn to it, I realize that I have this problem too. I had assumed that the latest update was going to fix it, because I never noticed this during the beta. It’s very frustrating, because I will go open a browser to research a kanji or find sentences for a word I am studying, then return to renshuu only to find I’ve been logged out.
Only, because I’m using the Apple login, I can’t simply sign in again. I have to force quit the app.
I've heard it mentioned a bit recently, so I think it's something newer than not. Thanks for mentioning that you are using the Google login.
Quick question: are you using any of the experimental settings for the non-"standard" renshuu server?
Of course, I cannot replicate the bug (yet) myself.
More questions for anyone experiencing this. Some of the answers have been given above, but in order to help coordinate the info, please repost.
1. Are there any specific steps you can take that will guarantee this occurs? If not, try and think about patterns: for example, does it only happen if renshuu has been swiped out of recent apps (or only if it IS in recent apps)?
2. Which login method (Apple, Google, or email) are you using to login?
3. What is the shortest time you've seen between you using it and getting logged out?
4. Are you using any of the Experimental settings to try out the other renshuu servers?
Thanks so much in advance!
1. Having the app in the background and waiting some time makes the app wanna refresh. I've accidentally had it in the background for about a day for example and it'll refresh and log me out.
2. Google login
3. I'd say like around 5-15 minutes due to using another app quickly before moving back to it.
4. Not using any experimental settings for servers. I am using a TestFlight version though. Since other people are having issues, I dunno if that's the problem or not.
Honestly at least we don't have to log in every single time...
It must be that new refresh, then, to avoid the grey screen. Looks like it is activating on more than just those grey screens, though. Frustrating. Will try to put some time into it this week.
I seem to only have the issue when using my iPhone. My iPad app doesn’t log me out.
I use Apple login.
Happens any time the app on the iPhone refreshes. Fastest I’ve seen is maybe an hour? I don’t need to close the app for it to happen, just switch apps.
I am using the experimental servers but even when switching the settings around it doesn’t make it better.
I'll be releasing a test version next week that will hopefully help this situation. Will let you all know when it's available for testing!
Ok, I have some things that I can try before pushing out a new app version for testing (which is the hardest to test, tinker with, etc.)
This first one is easy: clear out renshuu from iOS memory (swipe it out of recent apps), then load it back normally, and see if the problem re-appears.
Let me know if you see the issue or not. Thanks!
This is something you want done with the current release, or something in TestFlight? If it’s the current release, yes, it reappears. I do this routinely.
It can be done in the current release - I am testing server-side changes that do not require a new app to be installed. But the whole process would have had to be done after i posted that message.
Seems better. Just got a refresh. Long slow refresh, but no login screen.
I haven’t needed to log in today so whatever change was made seems to work
