each Pokemon has 1 or 2 types. There are 18 types that a Pokemon can have:

Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Fighting, Flying, Ghost, Ground, Normal, Poison Psychic, Rock and Steel

Some Pokemon can evolve under certain conditions (usually once they have hit a certain level) where they get stronger and take on a new form. Most Pokemon have at the absolute most 3 evolution stages
