I just got done with the hiragana mastery and was wondering if I should master katakana before "Words for japanese basics"? Also should I master the "Words for japanese basics" before "japanese basics"?
Please refer to the help. Press the (?) button in the menubar, then select Top Questions, then I'm a beginner. What should I study first?
Renshuu’s fairly flexible, and is designed to let you study whatever you want in whatever order works best for you. If you are studying Japanese from a textbook, there are pre-made study lists for all the popular textbooks in community lists.
If your only source of instruction is renshuu itself, then the Japanese Basics lessons were made for you. Once you feel comfortable with hiragana, you can start the basics of vocabulary, grammar and kanji. They can be studied in parallel, or in whatever order seems easiest to you.
Everyone is different, but it took me quite some time to master katakana. Learning the script is easy enough, but reading is tough. There's something about English words mangled into Japanese script with several look alike kana that made it really hard for me compared to hiragana. Katakana is vitally important for your japanese studies, but getting just a basic grasp of it is enough to proceed and start moving on to learn vocab and grammar, etc. The renshuu schedules are great to get you started. Definitely check out the help section as recommended
Also, as your studies progress and you can start to write basic Japanese sentences in hiragana and katakana, don't neglect occasionally practicing writing by hand! It's really easy to fool yourself that you know the kana 100% until you try to write by hand without the help of a keyboard and you blank out on how to write a particular kana
