I am finally going to expand out these videos. In addition to re-recording the current ones to better bit the layout of the dashboard, what other topics on renshuu would you like to see covered?
It's aimed at beginner or newer than not users, so nothing too "niche". I am to have videos be no longer then 2-3 minutes, so nothing too complex.
Current list:
How about a short video explaining the different elements displaying on the UI when looking up words/kanji in the dictionary? Like what the green lines mean, what happens when you click on the blue text that displays the verb, or even what the different tags such as mnemonics, usage etc do on words? Now I'm used to it, but when starting out with renshuu I was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of stuff displayed for a single word, so maybe explaining all of that could help beginners out.
How about an intro video of Tools under resources, which will make it easier for newbies to use the tools like text analyzer, reading buddy, kanji index etc.?
Perhaps one about kanji and furigana, or more broadly about how learning kanji & words will dynamically change the display of quiz questions & sentences around the site?
One of the most common things I see new users ask is "how do I get rid of furigana?", because they haven't been introduced to kanji schedules yet at their level and don't know that the furigana is meant to gradually disappear as they learn more kanji. Then they end up using the display setting that turns off furigana globally, which for the majority of early learners will be overkill and make learning overwhelming.
Just updated the list with videos for all the tools, re-records of all the old ones, new videos for the dictionary (3 of them), one more for Adding/Removing content, and I'll do the one for kanji/vocab mechanics tomorrow!
Ok, so I have the kanji/vocab video one, but it came out really long (8 minutes) - I felt like I couldn't skip the underlying explanation of how they are related, marking stuff as known, etc.
I did put it up, but I'd love some feedback on it. Thanks in advance!
I think you covered all the important points! I agree it's a little long compared to the others, but since it's kind of complex to explain how the whole known/unknown thing works and how it effects kanji display, I don't think you could really cut anything out to make it shorter
