There are quite a lot of comments so I'm unsure if someone else mentioned this, but there should be a menu where you select why a mnemonic is not useful. I can think of the following options: Inappropriate, improper mnemonic tag, irrelevant, incorrect kana/kanji reading, and "other" (with the option to write a short description on the reason for selecting "other")

I am also in favor of removing "incentives" such as coins, though it would be cool if consistently helpful users received a profile badge or something similar to show their involvement. (This is completely optional.)

Another thought, and sorry if it means more work for you kao_worry.png but I think it would be very helpful if there was an option to see the mnemonics for vocabulary as you learn the new words, kind of like when you learn new kanji you can see the mnemonics right away. That way you can get a better idea of what will help you remember the vocabulary before the quiz. They're super helpful for a lot of learners and I think it would be more beneficial to see a mnemonic before you get the new word wrong in the quiz instead of after. If it wouldn't be too much trouble I would love that option! kao_sparkle.png

You can see them! Go to menu > settings > search for "note".

Ok everyone! I wanted to start getting some data so I can see what I'm dealing with.

Please see this page: https://new.renshuu.org/index....

It will be made a widget later once it's polished up.

It DOES save all data that you send in, but it does not act on that data yet. I plan to first see what kind of consensus we get on these things. So please answer seriously :)

It's very simple (no rewards) - one note at a time, three buttons. Tap a button, get a new usage note (mnemonics only).

Please give it a try.

Ah, that becomes tiresome very quickly. A lot of them would be okay with a little work, but they’re so shoddy. Aren’t people embarrassed to have their usernames associated with stuff like this?

There were a few that I labeled not acceptable simply because I didn’t understand the reference and was afraid it might be taboo.

Honestly, I am just confused on what some of these mnemonics are trying to accomplish, so I keep hitting "unsure." They could possibly be useful to someone who shares the mnemonic creator's line of thinking, but definitely not me. Now I understand why the mnemonic acceptance process has become public kao_worry.png

The process does get tiring after a while. But every time I react to one, I get another one. So, if I want to stop, I have to "leave it on read" which seems rude somehow. (As in, look at it, but not respond.)

Basically, I'm encouraged to keep going, but my motivation will lag as I go on, so the quality of my judgement will go down over time.

Perhaps it could offer them in batches of 3 or 5 and give you a little pat on the back somehow (maybe with a cute Kaochan image) if you finished the batch. It could also give you the opportunity to load another batch if you wanted, or you could stop there.

You can always open the dictionary to do more research on a term. Click the dictionary icon again when you’re done and it will take you right back to where you were again.

I like how in settings you can hide selected definitions and some of them are set to hide as default (slang, vulgar, etc). Maybe you could do a similar thing with usage notes? Add another button to mark as potentially offensive or something (bad words, references something potentially triggering) and they if they are, don't show them unless the user has the setting off? That way new users won't see usage notes like that but they could still be included if lots of people like them? Just an idea, but I think this way of marking usage notes is good kao_sparkles.png

I'm going through the test site, and I wish there was a way to suggest small edits to some of these that I'm reviewing, like adding dictionary links to other words when the user didn't add them.

I felt a similar sense of frustration.

It's the weekend, so a few quick notes:
1. Keep in mind that this is a quick and rough interface so I could start collecting data and see what kind of consensus (or lack thereof) we're getting. I have no doubt that I'll add things to make it easier and more rewarding to use. Additionally, this is being set up on top of a huge backlog because of my recent illness. So if and when this gets going, there will not be that much of a backlog on any given set of days. At the moment, it probably does feel "endless"

2. Not planning on allowing community edits to other usage notes. That's simply too-big a can-of-worms to open with managing edits, trust, notifications on all of that, and a lot more.

3. I believe that the overwhelming majority of contributors are doing so with the intention to be helpful. Maybe they're 14 years old, or maybe they don't have the time or interest in putting as much time into them as others. That's *fine*, and is the freedom that renshuu was built around.

If anyone feels that it's ok to personally disparage contributors, your simply need not participate.

No one is suggesting that users should be allowed to edit each other’s work. If people really want to do that, they can copy with changes, just like before.
We’re just frustrated. And we have new appreciation for the work you’ve been putting in behind the scenes up until now.

Alright, already the second one has an English typing mistake, should I rate that as unacceptable? Is there gonna be a comment field when i press that?
