Hey, I am wondering if there some possibility for the uncommon/alternative kanji writings to be practiced.

Example: ところ / or ある /

I am aware of the settings which make them show instead of the Kana. I tried but it feels overwhelming as it replaces too much vocab for me. Also I feel it's better to practice the most common appearcance.

Is it possible to

a) add alternative readings as separate vocabulary to schedules

b) show the alternative readings as a reminder after quizzing in the card below pitch accent

Apparently not. It’s all or nothing.

I’ve been using the setting for about a year now, and it was overwhelming at first, but I got used to it.

How do you know the more common writings for new vocab? I don't want to develop an archaic chatting style like はどこにりますか :D

I’m not sure I understand the question. Every new vocabulary term I learn has a kanji expression and a kana expression. I memorize them both. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to pronounce the words as I read them, and that’s the only way I can read them.

If the concern is whether or not to use the kanji when writing, just imagine you are using pen and paper. Which way is faster and easier to write?
