At first I just wanted to be able to read manga in Japanese. Now I also want to watch anime, watch regular shows/movies, and play video games in Japanese too. Maybe in the future visit Japanese websites too
Got bored one day several months ago. Didn’t have any hobbies and thought picking up a new language would be cool. I originally started out with Korean, but swapped to Japanese shortly after.
I always wanted to try and learn something different. Japanese is just perfect for that. I really enjoy the writing system, and the cultural differences.
I began because when I was younger my mom was learning it (she didn't really keep up with it though...) so I thought I should learn it too, although I didn't really start learning it until I was like 12. I'm glad I did though because it just gets harder to learn new things the older you are
I may be a bit cliché but I learn it because I love how Japanese language sounds, Japanese culture and I would like to be able to completely understand any anime or manga in this language.
I started learning Japanese shortly after I started learning Chinese. For Chinese I had to study so many characters, and when I realised that the Japanese Kanji are basically the same except for pronounciation, I decided to learn Japanese. I find it convenient to study both languages simultaneously as they have this partly similar writing system and their cultures have a shared history. I find both very interesting, but about Japanese I especially like the expressive sound of it and the sentence structure which is so different to most romanic languages. Also, through learning Japanese I have found a new interest in manga and anime.
