I don't know if I have the time/bandwidth to join a group, but it sounds like a super fun idea that I would love to participate in (if only I had the energy to do everything!)

I like the idea of private groups later down the line... perhaps a classroom teacher could create a study group for his/her students in the future?

Private will most likely not be possible, at least until WAY later down the line - renshuu is a small enough company that we (I, really) cannot manage the potential reports for content that come from private communications, which is why the private DMs were removed earlier this year.

I'd also be interested in this! There are language exchange apps, but I think that learning alongside other learners would be a really unique strength to renshuu. I don't personally use Discord, so there's not really anywhere else to find this sort of thing for me.

Something I'd like to see personally with this new feature (and even outside of this feature like on the Friends list), is an option for a team-based learning where everyone's contributions can affect. For example, a shared level bar for the group or other rewards, or some kind of system where you all can see each other's progress and, if you see someone struggling/lagging behind the group with a specific word, maybe the others in the group can see that and all pitch in to create mnemonics for them or discuss it. Perhaps something kind of like "baton passes", where if person 1 studies, and then person 2 studies, it increases the chain and awards person 2 at double XP, and then person 1 can study and recieve three times the XP, that way it motivates you to take advantage of someone else studying and make a chain reaction.

Anyway sorry for being long-winded, it's just some random rough ideas, hopefully something in there looks interesting and catches your eye or even makes you think of something totally different, and if not, that's ok too! Thanks for all your hard work, マイコー! renshuu truly is a masterpiece and has helped me so much!

This would be so awesome in multiple ways, people motivating each other while orienting themselves to a certain set of specific studies and so on.

Suggestion I'd have for it (it may be unnecessary and I'm just suggesting because I think it'd be cool):

  • Group Hanko Banners/Logos: let people set a hanko for their group and it'd be displayed by the side of the group title and description on the group search list - a problem it could occur: increasing bandwidth usage for people who use bandwidth limited data internet provider plans, possible solution to that: have compact/minimalist (no group hankos displayed) and detailed view for group search lists

Already got the forum integration done. Groups lists are now visible.

I'm having a bit of a hard time envisioning how to add lists. It'll have a similar interface to what you do when you add lists to a schedule. However, let's say you have two types of members:

1. "power" members (admin, helpers - anyone that has can make changes to the lists)

2. everyone else

For group #1, if they find some lists and add it, it's going to be added immediately to the group.

For #2, though, let's say they find a list they think should be added. I'm not sure the same interface should be available to them, but there should be a way for them to suggest a list (or lists) be added. I think that adding more buttons (or whatever) to the Community Lists page is not ideal, so it needs to be within the SG page.

Any ideas? There is not yet a way to embed lists into a forum post, for example, so they are unable to say "hey, I found this list, what do you think?" I guess that functionality may be the easiest way to do it, but looking into other suggestions.

At least as far as lists are concerned, group two seems to be the same as the general public to me. They can’t edit, but they can see the group’s work products.

Just mentioning a list in a forum seems like it should work, but in order to do that, we need to be able to link to lists.

Maybe a “share” button in the list would be a good way to do that.

For group #2 I think there should be a playlist called "saved for later or smthing else" where these lists can be stored for it to be approved by group#1 before going into the group. kao_think.png

Thanks for the replies. I think I have something set up (it turned out to be visually simpler than I expected), but of course, I'll make more changes once it becomes available for testers.

Update: the testing period will have two stages. Because I do not expect a HUGE number of people to be involved in the testing,

Stage 1: there will be a single study group for everyone to pile into, play around with the stuff, and generally try to break and/or improve things. It won't be themed, exactly.

Stage 2: a smaller group of 5-10 groups will be allowed to be made, with the intention that those groups will continue to exist once it leaves the testing period.

The adding/removing/approving panel will be extremely similar to schedules.

The 1st and 2nd tabs should be somewhat obvious. The third, "in review", will only appear for those with that level of access, and will let you easily toggle each suggested list (by someone else) as approved or rejected.

Then, on the "main" study group page, it'll look something like this:

Would it be possible to have a set of recommended lists pannel? Or a recommendations pannel?
Like "If your main goal is to [...], we recommend to study those lists together in that way".

Beyond the list, I think there are so many different setup to achieve so many different goals. Like for me, the basic setup consist in few schedules for "formal" learning (like JLPT, kankei, textbooks, etc) and a few others for personal interests. And after, there is the balance to adjust. For me, the "formal" schedules should have a slow pace because it just takes time (I mean the goal is to achieve the level of an adult native speaker and that just takes years). And also, it's not fun compared to personal interest. On the other, just because its their personal interests, people are "thougher" in term of motivation. So they can have faster pace.

And that's one small kind of recommendation. I have tons of others in mind from general one to very specific recommendations. It can be small parameters schedules (different types vectors, number of vectors but also other setting). Depending on if they are beginner or not, I would probably give completely opposite recommendations. Depending on their personal priority too.

Also, in the recommendation pannel or another pannel, you could have some content recommendations. Like the other day I discovered a youtube channel about insects. The vocabulary is technical but the short usually just used the insect name with some basic reaction ("すごい!!!" for example). So with a list of insect name, some basic grammar and vocabulary, you could start immersion after what, one month? A few month? That would be seriously... so nice for beginners. Immersion at 1 month in kao_drink.png

Anyway,
I will stop here because otherwise, I will talk too much as always x).
But a visible place to share those kind of things like in those pannel would be really nice :3 (At first, I was thinking that I could that in the forum but... it would get probably messy or too big with time)

PS: sorry for getting out of track but since it was about "recommended lists", I couldn't help myself x)

At some point, yes, I would like ways of either grouping or prioritizing the lists. Initially, it will most likely just be "priority" which will bump them up to the top. I don't want to make TOO much before we actually see how well this takes off.
