An useful addition might be to add names as a subset for the vocabulary list, since their reading is often irregular. But this might be a more general and complex addition to renshuu, since a seperate dictionary might be needed? But an useful feature I think. I know some frequent names are already part of the standard dictionary and I added them with the reading buddy to my lessons before.

Hi, I’m new the app and I find a little difficult to use. I would like it if we could, either get more specific instructions, or make it so that it’s simpler to use. Thanks for listening!

Are you referring to the Reading Buddy, or renshuu in general?

If I search/add a word that uses an alternate character/spelling or rarely-used form, it would be very helpful to have the ability to select that alternate character or form to study and be quizzed on, since that is the one I would like to practice reading and memorizing.

I use the reading buddy for older and underground mangas, that may use some outdated kanjis for words mostly writen in hiragana nowadays. When I search for these rare writings I get the right vocabulary with the information "rarely written as ...", but I can't add this writing to the list (opposed to most alternative writings).

Example: , I can only add いのしし

Or is this already possible when using a certain setting within renshuu?

This is a limitation of Renshuu itself, not Reading Buddy. It's not possible to study "rarely written as" forms unless you enable them globally in your user settings -- which will force you to study the rare form of EVERY word. You can't enable rare just on individual terms.

.

This doesn't actually change anything about Reading Buddy, but currently Reading Buddy is the only place where it's possible to rename sets of lists. It would be nice to add that feature into Community Lists, too.

I use the drawing function a lot to search for kanji I don't know the reading for. The ability to hide the drawing screen while having it open is great, but I wish that I could click on the area underneath the screen without triggering the drawing screen again. Basically, I'm hoping to have a more succinct way to switch between drawing kanji and adding them to my lists. There could be a few solutions to this problem:

- Make the visibility button for the drawing screen above the screen itself, and make the drawing screen untouchable while it is invisible. That way, the visibility button can be toggled while having the drawing screen inactive.

- Create a hotkey to open/close the drawing screen so that it can open and close much faster without having to move the mouse away from the search bar or entries.

- Have the drawing screen open as part of the page, making it possible to have it accessible and interact with the first search result simultaneously.

(I am currently using a touch screen to draw the kanji, so I don't know if that affects any of the functionality I describe here.)

Thanks for hearing me out!

Radical look up like in takoboto. I find myself looking up kanjis there and pasting them into RB.

Point of clarification - you're looking up a word, but in order to do that, you're looking up the kanji elsewhere, then pasting the kanji(s) into renshuu?

Yes I'm reading a manga and I see a word that I don't know how to read. I'd want to look up the kanji based on their radicals but I have to do that in Takoboto and paste it into reading buddy.

If you go to renshuu's kanji dictionary, then tap the filter button next to the search one, there is a search by component. It is a bit misleading because it'll appear as if the search bar is still empty, but just tap the components, then close the filter and search, and it'll search them for you.

I'd love to see a video of your current flow so I can get a better feel of what you're looking for.

Thank you for the update マイコー ^.^

Regarding point 3, the adding custom terms system, I've been running into an issue where, when I press enter to add a term that was found on the search to the reading list, it not only adds said term, but it also activates the "add xxx as new term" button as well 😓

Of course.

In this image, I've searched for , which is not part of my reading list. Since it was the only result, I'll tap enter to quickly added to the list.

However, pressing enter not only adds it to the list, but also opens the "Add as a new term" menu, which I don't want to do.

Hi!

I have recently started to move away from the raw community lists themselves to the Reading Buddy and I noted one strange flow:

  1. If I do select the Assorted lists as an option in reading buddy, all of the drop-down disappear - both Set and List. See ref. below

I also have some ideas:

1. Maybe it is possible to add some quicker option to import a custom assorted list into a set? Instead of doing it via the list itself, as I have to make at least one list in a set to see it in the selection

2. When doing lookups, I sometimes do write a word I know, remove one of the kanji and draw the remaining one for word which I don't know. Currently, when switching to drawing mode, the cursor is set to the end. Maybe it could keep the position and add a picked symbol at the exact spot where the cursor is?

3. Sometimes, it is a bit hard to understand whether some search is ongoing after pressing Enter. Maybe some people would benefit having an indicator for that? For example, in the block, where the results would be present.

The first visual issue should be fixed. Thanks for reporting it!

As to the rest, I'm not sure on #1, and #2 and #3 can probably be added in the future. I'm not adding any functionality at the moment (See: https://new.renshuu.org/forums...), but hopefully when I can swing back around to this.
