You should be able to roll over the words in the question, and it gives you the definition.

Personally, as a newbie, I don’t really like using the section, and I hate that I have to do it to fulfill my goals for the day. In general, when you’re first learning kana and basic vocabulary, I find the questions and a lot of the games too difficult and frankly just frustrating to use. I would rather just focus on learning the kana and the basic vocab first, followed by grammar. It would be nice if there were some games that focused on learning those beginning skills. Shitori is too advanced for me, especially the kanji version. As far as the question section, I highlight the whole sentence, and then press the highlighted sentence to bring up the translate function on my iPhone. After translating the whole sentence, I often use Translate to help me answer the new sentence. But honestly, I don’t see the point, because there’s no feedback to know whether you wrote anything correctly or not.

You should be able to filter which goals appear in settings

I don't know if this is possible, but for linking sentences in the dictionary, would it be possible to add a thing where we could specify which meaning of the linked word is being used in the sentence?
e.g. in the picture, be able to select/clarify that ほかの means "other than" as opposed to "another place" or something else

That probably will not happen for the foreseeable future, but it would be a nice addition somewhere later down the road.

That's why it's very important to provide an English translation to show what you mean.

Often the context is enough, such as in the usage of ほか in that example sentence, though. There are still cases it might not be clear but I don't think those are especially common...

かえる and かける create situations where disambiguation is very welcome. Especially since we aren't writers, but learners, so many phrases will be ill-composed.

I would love if English translations were made to be mandatory, or alternatively very rewarded so that people want do add them by themselves.

The ability to find your own comment on a thread would be great. I wanted to revisit mine around 12-15hrs after posting, but had to go through so many pages to find it.

I'm not mad though, because the fact that I had to go through so many pages is testament to how great Renshuu is!

(But yes, would be great to be a bit easier to find your own! 🙂)

Just to clarify, this refers to comments responding to an answer to a question in the question corner, right? Because I can think of a few other places on the site where this could come up.

Oh I actually meant when posting up a comment in the Question Corner, but of course answers/replies would apply! I've only just started using the Question Corner myself, and I'm wondering if there are some differences using it on the app vs the site? (I'm strictly an app user).

I know something like this has already been said, but can you at least try to make the choice of adding an "English translation" more than just optional, and actually not force, but say that it is more encouraged because saying its optional just means that the user can do whatever they want and don't care at all... hopefully you know a bit of what I'm saying. Also, to encourage them even more, you can simply give the user a bit more exp, so they actually try to make a translation instead of being just "oh, whatever, I don't get anything, I'm not gonna translate...". This is probably going to be easier for the new users who just recently joined. Thanks in advance, if you do it!

I totally agree with you. It was a struggle when I started in Renshuu.

Yea, I definitely plan to incentivize the translation.

If you could sort the "Other Questions" column by how many people have responded to it, that would be great. I would love to answer questions that have few responses, but it's hard to scroll through all the questions and find which ones have the fewest responses. It's especially difficult to do that on mobile.

A similar idea: provide a “next question” button that loads a question you haven’t answered yet and that doesn’t have too many answers.

I saw a lot of comments asking for furigana and English translations. If implementing the furigana or dictionary linking is complex, another option would be to try to encourage people to do a standardized sentence format to help others read kanji. For example, I've seen it formatted like this: (わたし)は(えいが)(す)きです。

I'm not sure if there's a way if you could detect if there's Kanji in the sentence (like through ASCII value), prompt the user to provide the furigana readings (with the option to opt out of future prompts), have them enter the readings through a form, then refactor the sentence from their inputs. I think having a form of some sort may help with automatically providing a reward as well.

I apologize for the lengthy post. kao_rocking.png

So I've noticed that I do put in English translations, but for some reason whenever I check out my post after someone likes or comments on it, the translations disappear. Is there any way to fix this?
