Forums - Completion Levels in My Schedules Stuck

I've gone through the entire vocabulary/kanji/grammar of Genki I&II (3rd Edition) and some other textbooks as well, but the menu for them in My Schedules > All Schedules > Textbooks insists that I've only gone through them 97-99% completely. I haven't hidden terms and I've checked and double-checked that I've used the exact schedules in question.

For example, are there not actually 651 words in the schedule Genki I (3rd Ed.) (Words) after all? I've gone through 651 words and the schedule says there's nothing more for me to learn: is it just lying to my face or working on outdated information? After completing the word and kanji schedules for みんなの, the completion numbers for both currently sit at 98. What exactly am I supposed to do to get them up to 100?

It's a small thing, but my completionist/perfectionist brain can't stand seeing a number smaller than 100 in the circle after I've completely studied a schedule. Hopefully there's a fix for this.

I'm pretty sure, though not completely certain, the completion level of a schedule is based on the mastery levels of all the terms in the schedule. So if all the terms have 50% mastery, then the schedule's overall completion will be 50%. And 100% will only appear on the schedule if every term in it has 100% mastery.

So if all the terms have 50% mastery, then the schedule's overall completion will be 50%. And 100% will only appear on the schedule if every term in it has 100% mastery.

I had the same thought, but no: the page itself says "% of the terms in this schedule or category that you've studied or know (updated daily)" so total mastery is not a requirement. I also do have 100s in some schedules I've completed, studied all the material without total mastery, while in others I've studied it all and have a lower number. I've completed every last word, kanji and grammar expression from the Genki I&II textbooks but the list of the schedules looks like this:

99 Genki I and II

99 Genki I (3rd Ed.) (Words)

100 Genki I (3rd Ed.) (Kanji)

100 Genki I (2nd Ed.) (Grammar)

97 Genki II (3rd Ed.) (Words)

99 Genki II (3rd Ed.) (Kanji)

97 Genki I (2nd Ed.) (Grammar)

This also occurs with the Renshuu recommended -schedules, by the way, not just textbook schedules. Intermediate Grammar (N3) at 100 but Intermediate Kanji (N3) stuck at 97 despite there being nothing more to study/learn, allegedly.

Mind you that the circles next to the schedules under My Schedules do show the overall mastery rate, which seems to be accurate. It's just this "studied or know" number in the textbooks menu that's off by 1-3% for no reason I can think of from the user end (after my attempts at fixing it, including deleting the schedule and going through it again, reviewing all the way: the numbers won't budge).

How about now?

Everything else seems to be fixed, except Genki II (2nd Ed.) (Grammar) is still stuck at 97 (all 65 expressions studied, nothing new to learn). Great news that it's a fixable issue! Hopefully it can be worked out for all the available schedules.

Thank you so much! There's still one or two schedules stuck at 99, but the system rounds up the total completion to 100 so I can live with that. Again, thank you!

Hi people, hi Michael,

I am experiencing completion stats not appearing for grammar even though i already did a few exercises already.

I searched for forum topic closest to my problem, and found this thread which i remembered from not too long ago.

Here's the screenshot of community list, grammar's completion stat stuck at question marks.

Is this normal?

This has happened to older accounts - I can fix it manually by jumping into the database and cleaning out the stuff (but it isn't "obvious", in the sense that it cannot be done automatically).

Do you have this happening for any other groups, or just this one?

I randomly did one of the never-tried list in all the 3 other groups. The only one that is "stuck" is "sentences" group, "basic 500" list. The stat circle is still stuck at "?".

I don't see any issues with never-tried list from other 2 groups.

Do i need to test more lists in each of the 4 groups?

So, let's try this first. Stats will not be generated on the fly for just anything in the study center - it only happens if you have saved those lists (note how in the grammar n4 section, for example, you have all of those bookmarked, and they have numbers available).

So before diving into the rest of it, try saving the ones you'd like to get stats on, and see if that helps.

Oh i understand. Thanks for the clarification, Michael. So according to your description, bookmarked/added to schedule will show. Then the "beginner 500" seems to be an anomaly. I attach screenshot below.

These shows 0, and i did some exercise already, and it is already added to schedule.

So is this a valid anomaly?

If you tap on any of those lessons, and the individual terms come up, so you see accurate mastery levels attached to them?

Yes, my mastery is 100 for a few of those. i'll attach for sentences group:

On the other hand, you mentioned that I need to add to schedule for the "?" mastery to disappear. While I think my experience generally coincides with your design intent, there are cases where i didn't add to list yet, but other lists already contains them. For example this list in kanji, as i do the "?" ones, it will "open up" as an already added to study list and the mastery will be shown, only after just one study attempt. Here it is:

I am at another study list "pre-advanced N2" kanji list. Each of those "intermediate N3" lesson list above contains only about a handful of kanji that i have not studied (e.g.3). Upon studying once, the bookmark icon automatically gets highlighted without me doing anything. I expect Lesson 9 above to behave the same way after just studying once.

With this behavior, this is why I expected the grammar group's "japanese basics" or any other list to behave like what i experienced in the kanji list behavior (auto add to study list and mastery appears automatically after studying once.

I have not considered that I have not explicitly add any list to my study list, since quite a few so far has been "automatically added".

So, is my experience an edge case due to many factors? Then i will manually add to study list and it should work as your intended design for the mastery to appear. Not a bug then haha.

I think the confusion is here in the tooltip below for noun counter grammar list (which i have done ample times), "The stats will show up after you have studied it at least once". Because of that tooltip I have not gotten the hint that i needed to add to study list for mastery stat of list to show:

Thank you

Also my hiragana schedules have some of it ( 70%) of them are 50% mastery. So by the information I got , in order to make them all 100%, you have to bring all of them at 50%??? Is the same with kanji N5?

No - this is a "studied" percentage, and has nothing to do with mastery. A term will count towards the percentage if you've learned it (that means, studied it at least once or added a mastery level to it).
