Hello! How many kanji are needed for the JLPT N5 exam? Some apps like this one use 80 but others mention 100. Thanks in advance

My understanding is that there is no official list. So everyone is basically guessing what the kanji are based on what has appeared before on the exams. That being said, many N5 lists that are out there contain 80 kanji. So, if you learn those 80, and do some practice exams, you'll have a good idea of whether you feel like those 80 kanji are sufficient or not.

Some apps may simplify the list or offer a smaller set, like 80 kanji, to focus on the most essential characters for beginners. However, the official exam requirement is closer to 100 kanji.

The kanji that renshuu provides in n5 is enough for passing the JLPT exams. :
You can visit JLPT ( jlptsensei.com ) . Here all 2200 kanji ( N5,N4,N3,N2,N1) are there. You can access them without login, it is for free.
