I've become recently interested in the Japanese culture. I watched the anime Demon Slayer and fell in love with it. I'd like to watch it without it turned on English and hear their real voices. One that I am particularly excited to hear is Rengoku (my pfp and name) since he is my favorite even though he died . I am very interested in everything Japanese, like I said, and wish to travel there someday .
I really wanted to learn another language, and my course on university only has English class. I knew I'll have to do it by myself, so I can pick something fun. And I also really wanted to learn a different writing system andI liked how Japanese looks? And it would be nice to be able to read manga in original one day.
When I was little it was because of anime. Now my goal is to learn a language while my brain is still young and Japanese has the most straightforward pronounciation LOL. Also I already mostly knew kana from copying charts as a kid.
I still want to enjoy media in Japanese and as someone in Game Design it could be really useful to know...but now I LOVE making the connections between Kanji and the words I already knew...finding the history behind Kanji...seeing what abstract concepts are similar in English...I was already into linguistics but learning Japanese is so much fun
I started learning Japanese in my teens, and eventually helped out with some fan translations. When I was at uni, I didn't have time to keep it up, but now my interest has rekindled. I think the Japanese language is beautiful. I also love the culture, people and landscape - I love watching cosy videos of Japanese train journeys or snowy walks. I also love Japanese video games (particularly Ace Attorney / Gyakuten Saiban) and music (including Sakanaction, Utada Hikaru, Sambomaster, Asian Kung Fu Generation, Bonnie Pink, etc).
By watching anime & manga and interacting with Japanese people on social media, I have constant exposure to the Japanese language. I see Japanese text daily, so why not start studying this fascinating language :D The mysterious Japanese symbols intrigue me, and I want to learn to read and write them properly and use them in my artworks! My dream is to visit Japan someday! :b At last learning Japanese is a great brain exercise ^^
I'm an independent researcher that mainly wants to learn the language so I can find more complete information than what is available in English. I find a lot of video game history tends to be very America-centric so I want to be able to understand topics like the debate over categorizing RPGs by focusing on and listening to perspectives from Japanese speakers.

Ac Attorney is quite lovely indeed. One of the reasons I wanted to aswell. Especially if they end up releasing a game without official translation or have stage plays and there's no translation!
I originally started learning it because I wanted to be able to watch anime without sub titles, I also had gotten into drawing in a anime style which pushed me to learn more about Japan for my drawings, and soon I fell in love with the Culture like how safe it is, and the food and just how pretty nature was in Asia, and now I'm learning Japanese and going to Japan in a cupple years lol
I just love languages in general and had a childhood dream of breaking all of the language barriers one day lol. I'm starting with Japanese because the writing system is pretty fun to do and I love it. Didn't really have other reasons before, but now that I've gotten attached to it, there's just so many reasons to list off. Mainly that I want to understand my oshis better without having to rely on fansubs lolol
I have tried to quit multiple times, now I'm determined to at least converstational fluency, so around N3 but that doesn't matter, since I need to know 20k words anyway.
oh, the reason why I wanted to quit is because I've made a 1000 times faster progress in German and it was frustrating, so I abandoned Japanese for dozens of months. Now it's just my ego, I want to prove to my old self that I can do it. Also I love the caligraphy and it's a huge flex. I grew on anime but it's not the reason anymore, maybe light novels (since they don't get translated into english that much, but I don't really like reading that much)所詮はI'm yet to find a real reason.
my sibling used their birthday rights to make me watch a few episodes of Mob Psycho 100. I immediately got obsessed. I also pretty quickly noticed that my brain kept trying to find patterns between what i was hearing and the subtitles, especially on rewatches. Eventually, I decided that if my brain was so determined to try and learn a few words, I might as well do it the easy way. Now that I'm committed, I'd like to eventually be able to read untranslated manga.
Got fascinated with the food and culture, but also the writing system. There's something so cool about how it's so different from every other language, and I love how it feels to write Japanese characters.
Also, Japanese just makes sense to me grammatically; As a Polish person, I'm used to conjugating everything (take for example the word "zjadłem", which means "I (male speaker) finished eating", and "to eat" would be "jeść"), so it's nice to not have to worry about that so much.
I live in Japan, so better to start learning now than to miss an opportunity. Didn't know I'd end up here, so couldn't really learn beforehand. I'm pretty bad still though after being here nearly a year!
I have a few Japanese friends, and I'm a big fan of Vocaloid + Japanese music in general!! Eventually I aim to study abroad in Japan and (possibly) make some songs myself ♪ヽ(´▽`)/
I find the language lovely, expressive, and meaningful. The way Japanese speakers speak it draws me in for some reason-- their expression when they speak, and the sound of the letters. Other than those, it's because I like listening to Japanese songs and reading manga. Oh, and also because Hiragana characters look cute.
I always liked japanese culture and after stumbling upon some youtube videos about japanese language i decided that i needed to try it. ¡Absolutely loved it! Japanese helped me to kill time during covid times and challenged me a lot, got me to know new music/artists, new people, and different learning techniques which i used even outside of language learning. Definitely changed my life.
